The Office of the District Attorneys Environmental Protection Unit prosecutes complex cases involving environmental crimes to protect the environment and the health and welfare of its residents. These cases may include violations of laws regulating the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, underground tanks used to store hazardous materials, and air and water pollution. The unit coordinates efforts with various federal, state and local health departments and environmental agencies to investigate these cases. These investigations may result in civil lawsuits which result in financial penalties and through criminal actions that may result in prison jail sentences.
Aggressively prosecuting companies who seek to gain a competitive advantage by flaunting the laws and disposing of their hazardous wastes improperly create a level playing field for the business men and women who comply with laws and codes in our county.
