Restitution
Per 1202.4 (a)(1) of the California Penal code: It is the intent of the Legislature that a victim of crime who incurs any economic loss as a result of the commission of a crime shall receive restitution directly from any defendant convicted of that crime.
Common losses eligible under California Restitution Law:
Medical expenses Wages or profits lost due to injury Replacement value of stolen or damaged items Costs to install security devises Retrofitting of residence or vehicle if made handicap as a result of crime Mental health/counseling expenses Attorneys fees for loss recovery Repairs to damaged items Interest at 10% per annum Any loss demonstrated to be directly related to the crime
Restitution Services: Misdemeanor Offenses
When a judge imposes a restitution order to be paid by a defendant sentenced to Orange County Jail or probation on a misdemeanor violation, you need to contact the Office of Community Service Programs, Inc. (CSP) Restitution Services Unit located in the same court house where the case was handled:

Every court center is staffed with a well trained Restitution Specialist to assist crime victims in obtaining court ordered restitution from offenders on misdemeanor cases. In addition, crime victims may also be eligible for assistance through California Victims of Crime Compensation Program. Restitution Services: Felony Offenses
When a judge imposes a restitution order to be paid by a defendant sentenced to Orange County Jail or probation on a felony, you need to contact the Orange County Probation Department. To contact the Department please call (714) 935-7411 and ask to speak with the assigned officer of the Restitution Unit. By law, restitution amounts in adult and juvenile cases are determined by the Probation Department with concurrence by the Court and defendant. The Orange County Probation Department is committed to assisting victims as part of its core mission.
