MAN SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR BREAKING INTO HOME AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN AT KNIFE-POINT

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 35 years to life in state prison for sexually assaulting a woman after entering her home through an unlocked door and attacking the victim at knife-point. Dexter Tagudin Villanueva, 47, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury Nov. 17, 2011, of two felony counts of forcible oral copulation and one felony count each of first degree residential burglary, assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense in the commission of a first degree burglary, sexual penetration by foreign object by force, and criminal threats. The jury found true the sentencing enhancements and allegations for burglary in the commission of a sexual offense, the personal use of a weapon in the commission of a sexual offense, non-accomplice present during a residential burglary, the personal use of a deadly weapon, and the use of a deadly weapon during a sexual offense.

On the evening of Aug. 10, 2009, 59-year-old Jane Doe was sitting on the couch in her Anaheim home watching television. Villanueva entered the victim’s home through an unlocked door wearing a bandana on his head and cloth below his eyes to cover his face. The defendant took a knife from the victim’s kitchen and then attacked her.

Villanueva continually threatened to stab Jane Doe as he sexually assaulted her while she pleaded for him to stop and have mercy on her. The assault included forcible oral copulation and digital penetration. Villanueva put a pillow over the victim’s face several times during the sexual attack.

After sexually assaulting the victim, Villanueva asked Jane Doe where she kept her purse and stole her cash. He then threatened to kill her if she called the police and fled the scene.

If he were ever to be released, Villanueva would be required to register for lifetime sex offender registration, which would bar him from entering County recreational areas and City parks which have passed the Sex Offender Ordinance. Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Walker of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
