ALBERT GORE III CHARGED WITH POSSESSING MARIJUANA AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AFTER BEING PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING 100 MPH IN PRIUS ON JULY 4TH

LAGUNA NIGUEL – The son of a former U.S. Vice President was charged today after being pulled over on the 4th of July for speeding in his Toyota Prius and illegally possessing marijuana and prescription drugs. Albert Arnold Gore III, 24, Los Angeles, is charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, and a traffic infraction for driving at a speed greater than 100 miles per hour. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in prison.

Under the state law, Gore may be eligible for a drug diversion program instead of incarceration. He is out of custody on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Harbor Justice Center in Laguna Niguel. Time and courtroom will be determined.

On July 4, 2007 at approximately 2:15 a.m., Gore was pulled over for speeding by Orange County Sheriff’s deputies on the I-5 freeway in Mission Viejo. Gore is accused of driving over 100 miles per hour in his 2006 Toyota Prius southbound on the freeway near Oso Parkway.  When the deputy approached the window of Gore’s vehicle, he could smell marijuana inside the car. The officer conducted a subsequent search of the vehicle, and Gore is accused of possessing a small amount of marijuana, and a variety of prescription pills including Adderall, Vicodin, Xanax, and Valium without a prescription.

Assistant District Attorney Jaime Coulter is prosecuting this case.
