Michael Lubinski

Senior Assistant District Attorney

Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Lubinski was born in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to California when he was young and spent the remainder of his childhood in Orange County. Lubinski graduated from the University of Southern California (USC), where he received his bachelors of science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting.

Lubinski then attended the Pepperdine University School of Law. During law school, he was a published member of the Pepperdine Law Review. After earning his juris doctorate, Lubinski worked in a private practice, where he handled general litigation and bankruptcy law.

Lubinski joined the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) in 1984 as a deputy district attorney, where he served in Child Support Operations, the Municipal Court, and on the Felony Panel. In 1987, he was assigned to serve as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney, handling drug cases in federal court on behalf of Orange County law enforcement.

After five years in this position, Lubinski was assigned to the position of senior deputy district attorney, where he served in the Economic Crimes, Insurance Fraud, and Gang Unit. In 1997, Lubinski was assigned to manage the case against Jeffrey Hambarian, a former Orange County trash and recycling executive who was convicted of 47 felony counts including grand theft and money laundering. This case took seven years to prosecute. At the conclusion of the case, Lubinski was assigned to work in the Felony Projects Unit.

In 2002, Lubinski was promoted to assistant district attorney for the North Justice Center, Central Justice Center, and Special Prosecutions Unit. Under his supervision, the Special Prosecutions Unit, conducted the investigation and OCDA’s report to the Grand Jury regarding the misconduct of five inmates who murdered fellow inmate, John Chamberlain, in an Orange County Jail.

In 2012, Lubinski was promoted to senior assistant district attorney, where he currently oversees Special Projects.

Lubinski is a current member of the Orange County Bar Association Judiciary Committee, where he evaluates potential judicial candidates. He is married and has three children.
