Effective July 1, 2002, the Orange County District Attorney Family Support Division (DA/FSD) became a new and separate County department known as the Orange County Department of Child Support Services (CSS).  This change was mandated by the enactment of AB 196 and SB 542 on September 24, 1999.

Along with the name, organizational reporting responsibility was changed.   The services previously offered by the DA/FSD, including the location of missing parent(s), the establishment of paternity, the establishment of child support and medical support orders, and the enforcement of those orders are now provided by the Department of Child Support Services. Mr. Jan Sturla is the Director of the Department of Child Support Services.
