The Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted Huntington Beach Mayor David Garofalo for felony conflict of interest.  This was based on his voting on contracts and numerous matters before the city council in which he had a financial interest. As part of his conviction, Garofalo resigned from office, paid over $49,000 in fines, completed 200 hours of community service, and was barred forever from holding political office in California.
